WATZ News Director (Full-time) 

Full-time Salary, determined by experience.
4:30am to 12:30pm, Monday – Friday, occasional weekends for major events


- Manage daily news content and ensure that such content is relevant and informative to the listening audience of WATZ 99.3 and WZTK 105.7.
- Type and submit news stories daily to our online news delivery service.
- Identify news stories throughout the Northeastern Michigan community on a daily basis.
- Deliver FOUR unique 3-minute live news segments on WATZ 99.3 weekdays at 7am, 8am, 9am and Noon.
- Produce ONE unique 3-minute recorded news segment “recap” on WATZ 99.3 weekdays that airs at 5pm. - --- Produce FOUR unique 3-minute recorded segments for WZTK 105.7.
- Attend community meetings when deemed relevant to gaining news content.
- Interact with the morning show host between 6am – 10am when deemed appropriate, discussing topics like sports, weather, community events, live interviews, etc.
- Attend occasional radio station events where the News Director’s participation is relevant.
- Manage news assistant(s).


Candidates must be flexible, organized, and a team-minded individual with good organizational skills. Good interpersonal skills are a must with the ability to adapt to a changing environment. Must be responsible and able to work with little to no supervision. Candidate must be able to take initiative to ensure a quality news product is delivered on-air and online. Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and identify new and/or improved products for quality news delivery is a plus.


- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and the following…
- Four or more years of experience as a news producer/reporter.
- Computer literacy and proficiency using Microsoft Office software
- Ability to use standard broadcast audio equipment or ability to be trained to operate equipment.
- Strong written/verbal communication skills
- Strong news gathering, reporting, and interviewing skills.
- General radio announcing/hosting skills – clear annunciation, proper pronunciation of communities, landmarks, names, etc.

Marketing Consultant (Full-time) 

Key Responsibilities, include but not limited to::

  • Identifies and solicits new business; builds and maintains a full pipeline of sales prospects.

  • Services and grows relationships in existing base of clients.

  • Identifies client/agency needs and develops persuasive proposals to meet needs and opportunities.

  • Delivers effective sales presentations.

  • Steers clients based on market, platform and station information.

  • Maintains client communication and ensures client satisfaction.

  • Ensures prompt payments of contracts.

  • Follows all procedures for preparing orders, traffic instructions, production requests, resolving billing issues and more.

  • Generates revenue and meets/exceeds established sales targets.

  • Candidate must drive their own vehicle with a valid driver’s license and state-mandated auto insurance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Positive, "Can-Do," enthusiastic attitude.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including word, outlook and excel. 

  • Adept at prospecting and using effective consultative selling principles and practices.

  • Strong client service relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to plan and organize, set priorities and multi task in a fast-paced environment.

  • Negotiation and closing proficiency.

  • Persuasive communication skills: verbal, written and presentation.

  • Independent; self-motivated; competitive; assertive.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Understanding of market dynamics including demographics.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • High school or equivalent education (preferred) 

Salary: Base and/or Commission, depending on experience
