Alpena Township Board of Trustee members recently heard a presentation by the Huron Humane Society, who also made a budget funding request.
Executive Director Natalie Francis reviewed the agencies operations, animal care and costs, while another member presented fundraising efforts.
In the past, the township had provided 3-thousand dollars ($3,000.00), but Francis requested an allocation of 10-thousand ($10,000.00). The township is currently in the process of developing their budget, which has to be finalized by the end of this month (March) for implementation April 1st.
In a report, it was noted the society processed at least 113 animals from the township out of a total of 222, which topped the list for the county total.
A financial report was presented, along with a verbal report on fundraising efforts and changes to some programs in the next year, as restructuring with a changeover of mostly new board members continues.
The board will consider and possibly budget for the annual request.
