Alpena Commissioner Finance Committee - Remonumentation Contracts
Tue, 27 Feb 2018 06:06:31 EST
Alpena County Commissioner Finance Committee members have recommended the full board approve a series of contracts related to an ongoing county remonumentation project.
The project involves having the entire state resurveyed and establishing reference corners in sections of property originally completed about 175 years ago. Money for the program comes from grant dollars as a statewide pool funds the effort, coming from land recording fees.
Resurveying all counties in Michigan has been in progress for more than 25 years. Alpena County is a little over half way through the process which will take another 20 plus years. Over the years, priority has been on establishing corners that affect more people in more populated areas. Establishing about 900 corners in rural areas will take more time.
Lewis and Lewis, and Huron Engineering will each be paid 12-hundred dollars ($1,200.00) per corner located, with a total of 11, or over 13 thousand dollars ($13,200.00) for each company.
Fabis Land Surveying will be paid the same, except for locating ten corners for a total of 12-thousand dollars ($12,000.00).
Fees are slightly higher than last year and all are required to submit documentation for all corners located.
The full commissioner board is expected to approve of the contracts at their regular meeting today (27th).
