State Wildlife officials say two conservation officers shot and killed a black
bear in Wexford County's Selma Township late Saturday, just about two miles from
where a black bear attacked a girl last week.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says tests will be conducted to
determine whether the bear is the same one that attacked the 12-year-old girl on
Results are not expected for several days, and officials noted "the bear killed
Sunday may not be the animal responsible for Thursday's attack."
12-year-old Abby Wetherell was attacked August 15th while
walking in Haring Township. She suffered severe lacerations to her leg, and was
released Sunday from the hospital. She is recovering at home.
