Michigan will open play at the NCAA Tournament tonight at The Palace against South Dakota State. The Wolverines received a third straight NCAA Tournament bid, while the Jackrabbits made the NCAA Tournament last year for the first time as a Division One team. The winner will advance to the third round on Saturday to play either VCU or Akron.

The Tigers and Astros will meet tonight in Lakeland. Pitcher Justin Verlander will get the start for Detroit, while Houston will counter with Lucas Harrell. Quintin Berry will return to the Tigers lineup and start in left field. Berry missed some playing time this week because of a left knee injury.

Mr. Basketball winner Monte Morris scored 13 of his 29 points in the first quarter, and Flint Beecher continued its quest for a second consecutive state title by defeating Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central, 73-55, in a Class C semifinal today at the Breslin Center in East Lansing. Beecher (26-1) will play the winner of the Negaunee (24-1) - Laingsburg (23-2) game for the title Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
