The Tigers will return to Grapefruit League play on Thursday against the Houston Astros. Pitcher Justin Verlander will get the start for Detroit. Outfielder Andy Dirks is listed as day-to-day because of a bruised right knee. Outfielder Quintin Berry is not expected to play tomorrow because of a sore left knee.


The Detroit Pistons are expected to be shorthanded on Friday night at Miami. Guard Brandon Knight is questionable because of a sprained left ankle. Forward Andre Drummond is doubtful because of a stress fracture in his lower back. Knight and Drummond have worked out this week, but have not been cleared to practice. Guard Jose Calderon is listed as probable against the Heat because of flu-like symptoms. Detroit has lost nine straight games.


Michigan junior linebacker Jake Ryan is out with a torn ACL. The Wolverines' leading tackler from last season was injured at the start of the team's spring practices. Ryan led U-of-M with 88 tackles, four-and-a-half sacks and was third in the Big Ten with 16 tackles for a loss. He also set a Michigan single-season record wtih five forced fumbles. Head coach Brady Hoke says Ryan will attack his rehab like everything else and will be back when he's ready.
