The Red Wings will have a new face between the pipes tonight at St. Louis. Goaltender Petr Mrazek will make his NHL debut against the Blues. Mrazek was drafted by Detroit in 2010 and will get the start in place of Jimmy Howard, who has played all but one period this season. The Red Wings are 1-2-and-1 on the road this season. Following back-to-back losses to Columbus and Calgary, Detroit is nine points behind Chicago in the Central Division.
Pistons center Andre Drummond continues to battle a bad back. Drummond suffered the injury on Sunday against the Lakers. He played just four minutes last night against the Nets because of the pain. Head coach Lawrence Frank says Drummond is day-to-day heading into tomorrow night's home game against the Spurs. Detroit has lost three straight and is now 18-and-32 on the season.
Michigan State's Keith Appling and Michigan's Trey Burke have been named finalists for the Bob Cousy Award, which is given to the country's top point guard each season. The current list of 12 finalists will be narrowed to five on March 11th. Appling is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against Purdue because of a partially dislocated right shoulder. Burke is averaging 18 points and seven assists this season.
Michigan and Florida are co-favorites to win the NCAA Tournament, according to odds updated this week by Las Vegas Sports Consultants. The Wolverines and Gators are 7-2, followed by Indiana at 5-1 and Duke at 8-1. Ohio State is 25-1 and Michigan State is 30-1.
