The Pistons and Nets will meet tonight in Auburn Hills. Detroit is coming off a
99-85 loss to the Knicks on Monday, while Brooklyn rolls into The Palace
following last night's 92-83 home loss to the Lakers. The Nets won this
season's only matchup with the Pistons, a 107-105 double-overtime thriller in
Brooklyn on December 14th. At 18-and-31 the Pistons are 12 games behind Indiana
in the division.
In Big Ten basketball tonight, the 12th-ranked Michigan State Spartans will play
host to the 18th-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers. Tip-off at the Breslin Center
is 7:00 p.m. The Spartans are coming off last Thursday's 80-to-75 win over
Illinois to improve to 18-and-4, 7-and-2 in the Big Ten. The Gophers beat the
Spartans 76-63 in the Big Ten opener in Minnesota back on New Year's Eve. MSU is
13-and-0 this season at the Breslin Center, a place where Minnesota hasn't won
since January 4, 1997.
The Red Wings returned to practice today following last night's 4-1 loss to the
Flames. Head coach Mike Babcock gave goaltender Jimmy Howard the day off to
rest. Either Jimmy Howard or Petr Mrazek will get the start in goal tomorrow
night at St. Louis. At 4-4-and-1, Detroit is nine points behind Chicago for
first place in the Central Division.
The Spartans and Wolverines are busy on this National Signing Day for high
school football players. MSU signed 18 players to national letters of Intent,
while U-of-M had a 27-man class. Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame have
landed in the top-ten of recruiting classes for 2013 according to various
