Red Wings defenseman Ian White will miss the next two-to-three weeks because of a leg injury. White, who had surgery this morning, was cut by the skate blade of goaltender Jimmy Howard midway through the third period of last night's 2-1 loss to the Stars. Detroit forwards Todd Bertuzzi and Darren Helm are expected to return Friday night against the Wild. The Red Wings are last in the Central Division, four points behind the Blackhawks.
The Pistons will ride a two-game winning streak into Chicago tonight. Detroit, now 16-and-25 on the year, has lost 16 straight against the Bulls. Guard Rodney Stuckey is listed as questionable for the Pistons because of a sprained ankle. The Pistons' current road swing will also include a stop in Miami on Friday and a game in Orlando on Sunday.
The Pistons have a franchise value of $400 million to rank Number 22 among 30 NBA teams. According to an analysis by Forbes magazine, the New York Knicks surpassed the Los Angeles Lakers as the most valuable team at $1.1 billion. The Lakers were second at $1 billion. The Pistons were 17th on last year's list with an estimated value of $332 million.
Michigan State will wear special uniforms designed by Nike for Sunday's game at Indiana. The Nike Hyper Elite uniforms are similar to the green and bronze Nike Pro Combat uniforms the Michigan State football team wore for its 2011 win over Michigan. The Spartans also will have different socks, shoes and warm-up gear. The Spartans wore Nike camouflage uniforms in their season opener at Ramstein Air Base against Connecticut.
