The Red Wings have placed defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo (koh-lee-AK-uh-voh) on injured reserve. Colaiacovo, who played for St. Louis last season, hurt his shoulder during Monday's game against the Blue Jackets. Detroit has also signed former Blues defenseman Kent Huskins to a one-year contract and recalled forward Gustav Nyquist from Grand Rapids of the AHL. Nyquist will play for the injured Mikael Samuelsson. Jonathan Ericsson won't play against the Stars tonight because of a hip injury.
The Pistons are home to the Magic tonight. Detroit beat Boston on Sunday in Auburn Hills, while Orlando has lost two straight heading into The Palace. The Magic, who have won both of this season's matchups with the Pistons, will host Detroit on Sunday to end the season series. At 15-and-25, the Pistons are ten-games behind the Pacers for first place in the Central Division.
The Spartans and Badgers will meet tonight in Madison. Michigan State is 5-and-1 in Big Ten play, while Wisconsin is 4-and-1 in conference. The most recent meeting took place last March in Indianapolis during the semifinals of the conference tournament where MSU earned a 65-52 win.
Former Tiger Delmon Young is latching on with the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phils have signed the veteran outfielder to a one-year, 750-thousand-dollar contract. The 27-year-old hit .267 with 18 home runs and 74 RBI last season with Detroit. He was acquired by the Tigers from Minnesota during the 2011 season. Young was arrested last April for allegedly getting into a scuffle with a group of men outside a New York hotel and making anti-semitic remarks. He's a career .284 hitter with 89 home runs in seven big league seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, Twins and Tigers.
