Alpena Huron Shore Babe Ruth will be hosting local competitions for the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run and Home Run Derby today (Friday 5-5) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the baseball fields behind Alpena Township Hall. Little League opening day ceremonies and parade will take place Saturday (5-6), with the parade at 9 a.m. It goes from the Alpena Boosters Club to McRae Park with ceremonies immediately following, along with 28 games.

Chris Limback to succeed Pete Doubek as the new Alpena High School varsity hockey coach. Officials say Limback brings experience and success to the Wildcat hockey program where he previously led Alpena to three Final Four appearances over a 16 year span.   After six successful seasons, and two decades of hockey involvement, Doubek decided to step down as hockey coach.
