Michigan couldn't hold onto a late lead and lost to South Carolina 33-28 in the Outback Bowl Wednesday in Tampa, Florida. In his final game for U-of-M, Denard Robinson ran for 100 yards to set a new NCAA record for quarterback rushing with 4,495 career yards. Quarterback Devin Gardner went 18-for-25 in the air, throwing for 214 yards, one interception and three touchdowns, while receiver Jeremy Gallon caught nine passes for 145 yards and two scores. Gallon reeled in his second touchdown of the day to give the Wolverines a one-point lead with less than four minutes in the fourth, but the Gamecocks came back to score on a 32-yard pass with just 11 seconds remaining in the game. Michigan finishes the season with an 8-and-5 record, while South Carolina ends the year at 11-and-2.

The Detroit Lions have signed 12 players to futures contracts, including Macomb County native and veteran receiver Lance Long. Long, who was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2008 by Arizona, has also played with Kansas City and San Francisco, was with Detroit late this past season. Other players signed include receiver Dominique Curry, who was with the Lions during training camp, and receivers Terrence Austin and Chastin West. Austin played in 18 games for the Redskins in 2010 and 2011, while West appeared in 12 games with the Jaguars in 2011.
