Lions tackle Jeff Backus, safety Louis Delmas and running back Mikel Leshoure returned to practice today in Allen Park. Backus missed the Thanksgiving Day game against the Texans because of a hamstring injury. Delmas has missed several contests this season because of a knee injury. Leshoure, who is nursing a sore ankle, is expected to play on Sunday against the Colts. Meanwhile, cornerback Jonte Green missed practice because of an undisclosed illness.
Lions receiver Calvin Johnson was named NFC player of the month for November. In four November games, he had 32 receptions for 619 yards and three touchdowns. The 619 yards is a franchise record and the most by an NFL receiver in November since Terrell Owens had 693 in five games in 2007. The 154.8-yard average is the best in November since Hall of Famer Lance Alworth averaged 156.3 in three games in 1963.
The Pistons have the night off. Detroit has won two straight and will begin a two-game road swing tomorrow night at Memphis. The Grizzlies own the NBA's best record at 11-and-2 and are 7-and-1 at home. The Pistons improved to 5-and-11 with a 117-77 win against the Suns on Wednesday night in Auburn Hills.
Tigers outfielder Brennan Boesch remains with the club. Reports had indicated that Detroit could trade Boesch as early as this week. General manager Dave Dombrowski has said that the Tigers would tender Boesch a contract. Boesch hit .240 with 12 home runs and 54 RBI in 132 games this season in Detroit.
