The Tigers and Royals continue a three-game series tonight in Kansas City. Last
night, Detroit earned a 6-3 win in the opener and clinched the American League
Central. Doug Fister will get the start tonight for the Tigers, while the
Royals counter with Jeremy Guthrie. Fister is 10-and-9 with a 3.38 ERA in 25
starts this season. Detroit is 12-and-4 versus the Royals this season.
The Tigers are heading to the postseason. Detroit is the third seed and will
open the American League Division Series at home on Saturday. The Tigers'
opponent will be the division winner with the second-best record, and could
either be Texas, New York, Oakland or Baltimore. The White Sox, Rays and Angels
have been eliminated from playoff contention.
The Lions have a bye this week before facing the Eagles October 14th in
Philadelphia. Detroit dropped to 1-and-3 with a 20-13 loss to Minnesota on
Sunday at home. Special teams again let the Lions down, as for the second
straight week the team allowed punt and kickoff returns for scores. Last week,
the Titans did the same in a 44-41 overtime win against Detroit.
Training camp continues for the Pistons. Head coach Lawrence Frank and company
are gathering this week in Auburn Hills as they prep for the upcoming season.
Detroit will open preseason play on October 10th at home against Toronto. The
Pistons begin regular season play on October 31st against Houston at the Palace.
