Northern Lights Arena Celebrates 15 Years of Operation

Many may find it hard to believe, but it has already been 15 years since the Northern Lights Arena first opened its doors.

The facility was originally funded by a combination of grants, numerous community donations, and some millage money along with governmental subsidies.

Over the years, much controversy surrounded operation, management of, and funding the facility. But over time, the County of Alpena worked out an operational agreement with the Northern Lights Arena Community which currently manages the facility, with current manager Keli Werda.

The facility is definitely multi use, having hosted rodeos, car, camper, and vintage snowmobile shows in addition to a walking track and of course ice related activity, which generates a majority of income for the facility.

To celebrate, members of the public who may have never visited the facility and want to check it out are invited to a free open house on Saturday (30th), between 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Elementary student artwork, free refreshments, tours and other events are planned.

For more information you can call the arena.
