The Tigers and Washington Nationals will open a two-game series tonight in the nation's capitol. Anibal Sanchez will be on the mound for Detroit, while Washington counters with Jordan Zimmermann. Sanchez is 8-and-0 with a 1.97 ERA in 19 career starts against the Nationals. The Tigers, now 19-and-11 on the year, completed a four-game sweep of the Astros with Sunday's 9-0 win. Detroit is one game ahead of Kansas City for the top spot in the AL Central.

The Red Wings and Ducks are off tonight. Their Western Conference quarterfinal series is tied 2-2 heading into Game Five tomorrow night at the Honda Center. On Monday, rookie Damien Brunner scored in overtime to send Detroit to a 3-2 win against Anaheim in Game Four.

Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay will miss rookie mini-camp this weekend following knee surgery. The second-round pick from Mississippi State will most likely miss the entire offseason training program as well. Head coach Jim Schwartz said it isn't a long-term injury, and that Slay should be ready for the start of training camp in August.

Michigan's Will Hagerup, the Big Ten Punter of the Year last season, has been reinstated to the team but will sit out the 2013 season. Hagerup was suspended last December and did not play in the Outback Bowl after a suspension for an undisclosed violation of team rules. U-M announced today that he will participate in voluntary summer workouts and team functions. Matt Wile is expected to be Michigan's punter this fall.
