For the first time in the 43 year history of the Alpena Brown Trout Festival, Big Brownie has been caught.

The 20 inch, 3.70 pound brown trout was reeled in at about 9:50 Tuesday (7-18) morning by Jan Stepanski of Alpena. Whether it was skill or luck, Stepanski will receive $25,000 for her catch.

She was fishing aboard Rusty Hook captained by Robert Westenbarger also of Alpena when she reeled it in. The tag in the lip of the fish let her know it was the most sought after fish in Lake Huron.

According to Fishing Tournament Director Brad MacNeill, the catch has brought some excitement to the tournament with many people already stopping by to see it.

He said he planted the winning fish at 9:30 Friday (714) morning three and half miles out in 40 feet of water, and was it was caught in 30 feet.

Big Brownie isn't the only brown caught during the tournament. As of Tuesday (7-18) afternoon, around six others had been brought in, something organizers are calling a success.

Last year for the first time in the tournament's history, no brown trout were caught.
