The Detroit Tigers dropped their series finale with the Mariners 2-0 yesterday afternoon in Seattle. Justin Verlander was charged with the loss, giving up two runs on nine hits while striking out a season high 12 batters in seven innings. Mariners pitchers held the Tigers to just five hits. Tonight, Detroit visits Los Angeles for the first game of a three game set. First pitch is set for 10:05 p.m. Anibal Sanchez gets the nod for the Tigers, while Tommy Hanson will start for the Angels.
Lawrence Frank is out as head coach of the Detroit Pistons. He has been fired after two seasons. The Pistons finished 11th in the Eastern Conference this season at 29-and-53. Frank was 54-and-94 overall with Detroit. He was set to make four-million-dollars next season, with a team option for 2014-15. Detroit hasn't made the playoffs since 2008.
Michigan freshman forwards Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson III announced they will return to school next season.
McGary averaged 14.3 points and 10.7 rebounds during Michigan's tournament run. He recorded three of his five double-doubles during the tourney. Robinson tallied 11.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest.
Michigan State guard Gary Harris announced Thursday that he will come back for his sophomore season with the Spartans in 2013-14. Harris, the first player in the storied history of the Spartans' men's basketball program to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, had considered leaving for the NBA after a strong debut season in which he averaged 12.9 points and shot better than 41 percent from 3-point range.
