School Districts To Hold Their School Elections In November Or In August Of
Even Numbered Years.
     Supporters Say The Goal Is To Save Money.
     For Years, School Districts Have Held Stand Alone Elections On
Different Dates, And Critics Say That's Too Costly.
     A Senate Fiscal Agency Report Says Schools In Michigan Could Safe Seven
(M) Million Dollars.
     The Bill Does Say However That A School District Could Hold An Election
In November Of An Odd-Numbered Year, But Only If At Least One City In The
District Held Another Election At That Time And It Involved More Than Half
Of The School District's Voters.

     A House Committee Will Take Up Legislation This Week That Would To
Require The Department Of Natural Resources And Environment To Sell Land To
A Golf Course Developer In Northeast Lower Michigan.
     The Issue Involves A Potential Exact Replica Of Scotland's St. Andrews
Golf Course, The Oldest In The World, Being Built In Iosco County's Oscoda
Township.
     It's Believed By Some That Such A Course Could Potentially Become A
Major Tourist Attraction.
     The Developer Says The Course Would Cost About Three- Or Four-Million
Dollars To Build And It Would Be As Exact A Replica Of St. Andrews As
Possible, Even Down To Detailed Elevations.
     Some Residents Of The Area Have Started A Petition Drive To Try To Stop
The Plan From Going Forward.
     The Measure Is Before The House Tourism, Outdoor Recreation & Natural
Resources Committee.

     Former Michigan House Speaker Craig Deroche Has Been Charged With One
Misdemeanor Count Of Operating While Intoxicated.
     The Novi Republican Was Charged Thursday In Washtenaw County.
     Deroche Was Arrested Last Month On Suspicion Of Drunken Driving In
Saline. When Arrested , He Registered A .249 Blood Alcohol Content Level,
More Than Three Times The Legal Limit.
     If Convicted, Deroche Faces Up To 93 Days In Jail And 500-Dollars In
Fines.


(Detroit-Viper To End)
     The Production Of The Final 500 Models Of The Dodge Viper Will
Reportedly Begin Later This Month.
     Those Vehicles Are Built At Chrysler Llc's Conner Avenue Assembly Plant
In Detroit.
     The Future Of The Viper Has Been In Doubt Since The Automaker
Reorganized Under Bankruptcy Protection Last Year. The 2010 Viper Will
Reportedly Have Over Seven-Thousand Color And Option Combinations.       
     Chrysler Llc Has Been Behind Competitors In The Race To Introduce New
Vehicles. The New Jeep Grand Cherokee Is Scheduled To Begin Production In
May. Updates To The Chrysler 300 And Dodge Charger Are Expected To Go On
Sale In November. The Automaker Will Also Begin Production Of The Fiat 500
At Its Facility In Toluca, Mexico In December.

     Increased Security Measures Will Be In Place In The Detroit Public
Schools District Beginning Next Year.
     Last Week, Dps Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb Announced A
41-Point-Seven-Million-Dollar Technological Upgrade, Which Will Include A
State Of The Art Alarm And Digital Camera System. Every High School In The
District Will Have 100 New Cameras Which Will Be Placed Throughout The
Buildings.
     Under The Initiative, K-8 Schools Will Each Receive 32 Cameras And
Elementary Schools Will Get 24 Cameras. Bobb Also Announced Every High
School Student Will Be Given New Identification Badges Which Will Help
Monitor Attendance And Keep Non-Students From Entering School Buildings.
     Most Of The Funding For The Upgrades Will Come From The Over
500-Million-Dollar Bond Issue Detroit Residents Approved Last Year.

Connection With A Probe Into Race Fixing At Three Horse Race Tracks.
     Warrents Were Executed In Three Southeast Michigan Homes.
     The Investigation Is Targeting Races At Hazel Park Harness Raceway,
Northville Downs And Sports Creek Raceway.
     As Many As 30 Harness Drivers, Trainers, Owners, And Gamblers Could Be
Targeted.
     Track Operators Do Not Appear To Be Involved And Are Cooperating With

Jobs Bill That Offers A Series Of Tax Credits And Other Stimulus Measures To
Create An Estimated 300-Thousand Jobs.
     The "Hiring Incentives To Restore Employment" (Hire) Act Provides 13
(B) Billion Dollars In Small Business Incentives To Hire And Retrain New
Employees,
With A 2010 Exemption For The Employer Share Of Social Security Taxes.
       It Also Provides A One-Thousand Dollar Income Tax Credit For Every
New Worker They Keep Employed For 52 Weeks, And A Payroll Tax Holiday.
     The Senate Also Expects To Approve A One-Year Extension Of Unemployment
Benefits, Which Senate Democrat Carl Levin Says Michigan Sorely Needs.
     The "Hire" Act Also Extends Capital Expenditure Tax Deductions Up To
250-Thousand Dollars For Small Business Expenditures In 2010, And The
Highway Trust Fund For Billions In New Infrastructure Investments,
Nationwide.
     The "Hire" Act Would Be Fully Paid-For, Under Congressional "Paygo"
Rules.

     Lansing Community College Is Set To Launch A Pilot Program That Will
Refund A Students Tuition If They Don't Get A Job Within One Year. The
Program Is Designed For Students In Four Newly Created Job Training Courses
At The College.      Money Back Guarantees Have Been Offered For Various
Courses At Oakland Community College And Henry Ford Community College.
     The Program At Lcc Is Slated To Begin In May For Those Students Taking

Captured In New Mexico.
     Michael Smith Was Serving Time For Marijuana Possession, Fraud And

Michael Redd And Had Also Lived In Colorado During His Time On The Run.
     
     Federal Officials Were Notified Of His Location When He Submitted
Fingerprints As Part Of Pre-Employment Requirement To Be A Truck Driver.
