Alpena Township Building Official and Department of Public Works Director Jerry Bleau has resigned from his Building official duties, effective April 1st.

Bleau served in that role for the past year plus after former Building Official Les Klimaszewski retired. Bleau was paid a salary of $17,000.00 for performing Building Official duties.

While he declined to add any specifics, Bleau said of his decision "I think it's time to do so."

While Bleau will take off his Building Official hat, he will remain the township Department of Public Works Director. He also is the Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Officer for Alpena County, is a part time Building Inspector and Zoning Administrator for Wilson Township, and volunteers for the Alpena and Wilson Township fire departments.

All municipalities are required to have a building official who is responsible for a variety of tasks, including building code enforcement, issuing permits, inspecting properties, construction, and issues certificates of occupancy.

While the board accepted Bleau's resignation, they took no further action on the issue.
