Alpena County Bridge Replacements Moving Forward

Alpena County Road Commission officials say the process continues to replace two outdated bridges in the county road system that were built in the 1920's.

As previously reported, after 20 years of applying for funding, the commission has been notified that two bridges are slated to receive funding for replacement. They include a bridge on Werth Road over Mud Creek expected to cost 9-hundred 57 thousand dollars ($957,000.00) with funding expected to be released in 2019.    R.S. Scott Associates of Alpena was hired to do bridge design and preliminary engineering work to prepare for bridge replacement in the summer of 2019.

The other is the Devils River Bridge on Ossineke Road targeted for funding and replacement in 2020 at a cost of around 8-hundred 67 thousand dollars ($867,000.00). On that project, Alpena Road Commission board members recently approved of R.S. Scott Associates to perform a bridge design at the cost not to exceed just over 47-thousand dollars.

Road Commission Managing Director Larry Orcutt noted that one reason the company was selected for the job was because they are familiar with bridges in the county, performed inspections, and developed similar projects in the past.
