During their most recent meeting (March 5th), Alpena City Council approved 2017 Starlite Beach Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Trust Fund Improvements.

City Engineer Rich Sullenger mentioned back in February (February 27th) the City received and opened bids for the improvements.

The project includes installation of the new splash park, removal of dune sand from the park, beach sanding, wind erosion control measures in the form of concrete seat walls, and concrete walkway improvements.

Sullenger added, due to the Michigan DNR Trust Fund involvement, the bid, proposed contractor and all subcontractors must receive approval from the Michigan DNR prior to final award of the project.

Council awarded Meridian Contracting Services, LLC, pending MDNR approval, for the base bid unit prices totaling over 325 thousand dollars ($325,490.05) and also approved the Splash Park design option price of $204,000 for a total project cost of over 529 thousand ($529,490.05).
