Murder Suspect Enters Not Guilty Plea

A 70 year old murder suspect entered a not guilty plea in Montmorency County 26th Circuit Court.

Harold James Morgan is accused of stabbing 20 year old Kelsi Barrie of Hillman last August (24) on Klein Road in Rust Township.

Authorities say that evening, Montmorency County 911 was notified of a possible stabbing. Deputies and Hillman EMS arrived to find Barrie deceased inside the residence.

State Police and detectives of Alpena, along with other detectives from the 7th District were called in to assist. By request of the sheriff department, the case was turned over to State Police who also activated their crime lab unit at the scene.

A preliminary investigation lead authorities to Morgan as a suspect who was known to the victim. Morgan was detained as he was arriving at his residence, and taken into custody. After an interview, he was placed under arrest for the victims murder.

Morgan will be sent to a state facility for a forensic evaluation which is expected to take at least 60 days.
