Emergency Repairs Needed for Township Water Service

Department of Public Works Director Jerry Bleau informed the Alpena Township Board of Trustees Monday evening (11-27) that he will be requesting a sizable chunk of change to make some emergency repairs to the township water service.
During the water pressure issue and boil water notice that occurred back in November (November 17-19) Bleau discovered a pair of valves that no longer function. Those valves are crucial to getting water to township customers in an emergency.
Township water towers carry a three day supply of emergency water, but without working valves, that water can't be delivered.
Bleau has been getting estimates for necessary repairs for what he calls and emergency situation. Once he has all necessary documentation, he will ask the board for money which he expects will be between $10,000.00 and $20,000.00 each.
Funding is available in the current budget to cover the cost.
