The Alpena Township Fire Department is expecting a record breaking year.

They were called to 62 medical emergencies during the month of October.

Add to that fire emergencies and other calls such as non-emergency transfers, false alarms personal injury accidents and service calls, and the department responded to 148 calls.

As of the end of October, the department had responded to over 1,630 (1,631) calls. That is equal to more than five runs each day so far this year.

In 2009, the department had a total of 800 runs for the year. At this point in November, they are at over 1,800 runs for the year. With one more month to go, they expect to end the year with more than 2,000 runs which would the highest ever for the department.
