An Onaway teen is dead following a two vehicle accident early Thursday morning (11-30) involving a passenger car and box truck.

Just before 6 o'clock, members of the Cheboygan County Sheriff's Office were called out to the crash on M-68 near Walker Road in Koehler Township.

M-68 was icy due to rain freezing on the roadway, and believed to have been a factor when a car driven by 17 year old Alexia LaHaie of Onaway was traveling west, lost control of her vehicle and crossed sideways into the path of a box truck driven by 26 year old Arteen Stout of Prudenville.

LaHaie was pronounced dead at the scene. Stout received minor injuries and was released after being treated at a nearby hospital.

M-68 was closed for seven hours and rerouted while the investigation took place at the scene. “At this time we believe there are no other factors that contributed to the accident but the investigation is on-going,” said Sheriff Dale Clarmont.

Assisting at the scene was the Emmet County Sheriff’s Department Accident Investigation Team, the Michigan State Police, Forest Waverly Fire Department, Tuscarora Township Fire Department and Cheboygan County Life Support System.
