Three people have been arrested for stripping boughs from trees.

At about 4 o'clock Monday afternoon (11-27) members of the Cheboygan County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the area of US 23 and Harmony Lane in Beaugrand Township for three subjects cutting boughs illegally on state and private property.

Upon arrival of deputies the subjects fled on foot. Two were apprehended immediately. The third subject was eventually located by the Cheboygan County K-9 unit and arrested not far from the scene hiding in tall grass near a wood line.

The investigation is ongoing and the names have not been released pending arraignment. “At this time we believe their involvement to be in at least four different locations around the county where we have found damage to over 600 trees on state and private land that will total in the thousands of dollars,” said Sheriff Dale Clarmont.

The Sheriff Department was assisted by the Department of Natural Resources and the Cheboygan Department of Public Safety.
