A missing hunter was located alive and well in Alcona County, thanks in part to a Michigan State Police helicopter.

Last Thursday evening (11-16), 72 year old Lawrence McQuarter of Pinconning was reported missing just after 7:30 in the wooded area of Huron National Forest north of Glennie.

McQuarter's vehicle was located on Fowler Road east of M-65. Because of the vast area, Alcona County Sheriff Deputies requested assistance from the Alcona County Search and Rescue. Awaiting their arrival, deputies requested a Michigan State Police helicopter due to the density of the woods.

Upon arrival, police in the helicopter were able to locate the missing hunter using a heat image camera. They directed three ground search and rescue personnel to the hunter.

McQuarter found in good condition and escorted from the woods by rescuers guided by a searchlight on the helicopter.
