The Boil Water Notice, issued over the weekend for Alpena City and Township water customers, has been lifted.

In a press release issued by Suez Environment, they say the water main break that occurred Friday (11/17) has been repaired. The main break resulted in significant pressure loss to the City of Alpena water system which had the potential to lead to contamination if ground water, surface water, dirt or bacteria entered the system through the broken pipe.

As previously reported, as a precaution, The City of Alpena and Alpena Township, issued a system wide Boil Water Notice.

Officials go on to say samples were collected Sunday (11/19) to ensure the water being delivered to customers was safe to drink and results showed that it was. There has been no contamination of the City of Alpena or Township Water System due to the main break.

All customers can stop boiling water at this time. This includes the City and Township.
