Winter Weather Presentation Scheduled for Alpena
Thu, 16 Nov 2017 06:02:15 EST
The National Weather Service will give a winter weather presentation in Alpena Monday (11-20).
This year’s talk includes topics such as winter precipitation types, measuring and reporting snowfall, a summary of last winter and an outlook for this winter.
With one of the most active winter weather seasons in the United States, residents of Northern Michigan have to be prepared for changeable and sometimes severe weather.
This is one of the few states which experience lake effect snow. That occurs when cold air crosses the still relatively warm waters of the Great Lakes, picking up moisture and depositing it over the region.
Monday's 90 minute presentation will take place at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary on Fletcher Street beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Those who attend will be given winter safety handouts and a winter spotter card.
Reservations are not necessary.
