Just as temperatures are scheduled to drop below freezing this week, Superintendent of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary Jeff Gray will follow through on his Giving Tuesday challenge.
Today, Gray will jump into the Thunder Bay River dressed in a turkey suit at 3:00 p.m. , just outside the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center building.
Gray challenged Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary (TBNMS) to raise 75-hundred dollars ($7,500.00) or generate 50 donations on Giving Tuesday, November 28, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
Forty-one donors contributed over 81 hundred dollars ($8,135.00) for sanctuary education and community outreach programs. Additionally, 15 donors contributed directly to the Friends website raising and additional 2-thousand dollars ($2,025.00), for a combined grand total of 56 donors and over 10 thousand dollars ($10,160.00).
Following Gray’s jump in the river, the community is encouraged to attend a free presentation this evening about the discovery of two more shipwrecks found off the coast of Presque Isle.
The program starts at 6:00 p.m. in the theater of the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center.
