Following a pair of interview sessions held during special meetings of the Alpena Public Schools Board of Education, APS has hired a construction management partner to work with the district as they continue to explore future facility needs.
Wolgast Corporation was selected out the five firms that were interviewed Monday and Tuesday evening (12- 4 & 5).
APS Superintendent Dr. John VanWagoner said, “We had five reputable companies that are all very capable of helping our district as we continue to evaluate our facility needs. After carefully analyzing the services that each company has the ability to provide, our Board decided Wolgast Corporation was the best fit for our district.”
Based out of Saginaw, with a field office on M-32 Alpena, Wolgast Corporation has experience in school construction, having worked with 168 Michigan school districts, including many across Northern Michigan.
A district wide facility study was conducted in 2013 to see what changes and improvements were necessary and/or desired. Many of the recommendations were simply deemed too expensive or unnecessary, and safety was given a top priority followed by necessary improvements to buildings and mechanicals.
The facility assessment was conducted by IDI and Devere construction. Phil Neimi from I.D.I. was present for the interviews.
School officials plan to have public discussions about proposed changes, and it will likely be up to voters to decide if those proposals become a reality.
