Alpena Township will be contracting with a new snow removal company for the upcoming winter season.

Grass Hpppers, owned and operated by Walter Smith will be providing snow plowing services to township offices, fires stations, water towers the M-32 pump station and the bike path along M-32 and US-23.

When snow reaches at least three inches deep, plows will clear snow at rates of between $35 and $60 depending on location.

Grass Hpppers will also provide driveway salt at rate of $150.00 per ton and loader work for $100.00 per hour.

Everett Goodrich Incorporated also submitted a bid, but was not interested in plowing out the fire departments, which would have required another contractor to be hired.
Alpena Township Supervisor Nathan Skibbe commenting on keeping the service linear and sticking to one contractor for all the jobs,

Schwartz Excavating and Contracting had provided the service for several years, but is no longer doing so.
