According to the Alcona County Sheriff's Department, the accident occurred shortly after 11 0'clock Friday evening on Sanborn Trail near Almond Road in Barton City.

An investigation revealed that a 2014 Polaris Sportsman ATV was being driven by a 27 year old Ferndale man with a 27 year old Sterling Heights woman as a passenger. They were traveling east when the driver lost control, striking a tree.

Both subjects were thrown from the ATV and were transported to Alpena Regional Medical Center by Alcona EMS.
