Organizers Announce Parade and Cardboard Regatta Winners

The Alpena Chamber of Commerce has announced this year's Fourth of July parade float winners.

In the Non-Commercial Division, first place went to Catholic Community of Alpena, while second went to the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce/Goodrich Trucking and Asphalt Paving.

In the Commercial Division, top prize went to the Home Depot, with Lafarge taking second.

The judges included DDA Executive Director Lesslee Dort, Alpena City Councilman Mike Nowak, and Alpena News reporter Steve Schulwitz.


Meanwhile, the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary announced the winners of its Thunder Bay Regatta Cardboard Boat Race:

Pride of Fleet Award (Most Well Engineered): USS Washington

Admiral's Award (Most Innovative Design): Can of Sardines

Captain's Award (Team Spirit) Huck Finn

Titanic Award (Most Spectacular Sinking While Trying NOT to Sink): Valiant Vessel

Most Sailors Afloat Award: Zibby Boat

Judge's Bribe Award (Most Money Raised): Hog Rider

First Place Class 1 (Kids): Purrr-fect in Pink

First Place Class 2 (Single Sailor): Huck Finn

First Place Class 3 (Crew of Two): Valiant Vessel

First Place Class 4 (Group Crew, 3+): USS Washington
Thunder Bay Cup GRAND PRIZE: USS Washington

Battle Royale Award (last ditch race, all participants, with harrassment!): USS Washington
