Project Blue Light

For the 18th consecutive year, Project Blue Light takes place this evening indoors at the APlex in Alpena beginning at 7 o'clock.

Tonight's ceremony which starts off with the honor guard will pay tribute to fallen police officers and firefighters who have died while in the line duty.

During the candle light protion of the ceremony, Luteniuent Eric Hamp of the Alpena City Police Department will read the names who have died in the line of duty as well as the names and those who are representing them. State Fire Marshal Julie Secontine will be the featured guest speaker.

Two christmas trees will be lit. One with blue lights in honor of fallen police officers, the other with red lights honoring fallen fireffighters. There will also be a bagpiper, pledge of allegience lead by children in attendence

The event was brought to Alpena by Gloria Egelski whose son, Trooper Bryon Egelski died in July of 1994 as a result of injuries sustained in a patrol car collision while responding to the call of an injury traffic crash.

Gloria Egelski said she brought Project Blue to Alpena, not for just her son, but for all of those who died in the line of duty.

She encourages all to attend. Refreshments will be served.
