The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is now offering a new license plate to help celebrate and support Michigan's wildlife.
The 2018 license plates are a celebration of 100 years of work maintaining the state's elk population that began in 1918.
A new license plate can be purchased from the Secretary of State at any time for $35.00. An additional $10.00 specialty license plate fee is charged annually when drivers renew their registration.
The new plate replaces "The Loon" version that was first issued in 2001, and helped to raise over 2-point 6 million ($2,600,000.00).
Proceeds from the plates will benefit the Michigan Non-Game Fish and Wildlife Fund, which protects wildlife habitat in the state.
