Alpena City Assessor Jeff Shea To Retire
Tue, 05 Dec 2017 06:02:17 EST
Alpena city officials have begun the process of searching for a new city assessor.

Current City Assessor Jeff Shea has announced his intention to retire after serving in the role for 17 years. Prior to city employment, Shea worked in the Alpena County Equalization office. He plans to retire in the summer of 2018.

The primary responsibility of an assessor is to find the fair market value of property so taxpayers contribute a fair share of support for services in relation to that value.

The assessor also prepares and makes all regular and special assessment rolls, along with reviewing new construction, personal property of companies and other associated duties.

To find a replacement, the Alpena City Council approved of forming a search committee. As part of a consent agenda, they designated council persons Cindy Johnson and Mike Nowak to serve, along with Shea to begin the process.
