The Alpena County Regional Airport will be eligible for a large grant after their recent passenger numbers were released.
Enplanements have continued to increase through the year. Airport Manager Steve Smigelski said for November, 898 enplanements were recorded. That compares to 739 in November of last year.
So far, with SkyWest and charter aircraft totals year to date, the airport has had a total of 10,022 enplanements, which means the goal for the airport of ten thousand this year has been met, and there is still the month of December that has to added to the numbers.
When the airport has 10,000 enplanements in a year, it becomes eligible for a one million dollar Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant. Airports that fall short of that goal are still eligible for a $150,000.00 AIP grant.
