The Alpena County Commissioners have agreed to enter into a yearly Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) program.
The grant provides dollars through the State Police Emergency Management Program. Money is used locally to operate part of the county emergency management program which has to be capable of protecting life, property, and vital infrastructure in times of disaster or emergency.
The State allocates Federal Homeland Security pass through money for the county, which totals nearly 23-thousand dollars ($22,844.00) which the county pays for half of that amount of just over 11 thousand dollars ($11,422.00). The county share is usually covered by in kind matches of salary or office and clerical support - all of which has to be documented and submitted to the state for reimbursement and funding.
The award also covers a portion of the emergency manager salary and fringe benefits.
