Jacobs' Case Bound Over to Circuit Court Thu, 08 May 2008 15:43:23 The case against an Alpena High School student who allegedly threatened to shoot people at last month's prom has been bound over to Circuit Court in Alpena County. District Court Judge Harold Johnson determined this afternoon that there was probable cause in the case of 19-year-old Jesse Jacobs, despite arguments from Jacobs' attorney that there is not enough evidence to prove he intended to harm anyone. A gun shop owner testified that he sold a 3-0-8 caliber rifle to Jacobs at the beginning of April. Two Alpena High students testified that they heard Jacobs make threatening comments during lunch one day in the Alpena Mall parking lot. One of them claimed to have seen the rifle in Jacobs' possession. Jacobs is being charged with false reporting or threat of terrorism, which can carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison of a 20 thousand dollar fine. Chief Assistant Prosecutor Judi Twarozynski said the next step will be an arraignment in circuit court, followed by a determination of whether or not the case will go to trial. |
