If you've noticed dead patches on your lawn, and you have sandy soil... it's possible you've been invaded by grubs.

Because of recent drought-like weather, the white C-shaped bug has been more plentiful in Northeast Michigan. Michigan State University Extension director in Alpena County, Mary Dunckel says, "It's a crazy insect problem and it's the first time we've had it to this extent."

Rain will make active grub spots more visible. So, if you suspect you have grubs, dig up a few shovelfuls of soil at the edge of a bare lawn spot. Dunckel suggests if you find five or more grubs per square foot, to do treatment by May 10th or 15th.
