Alpena Township Neighborhood Concerned About Blight Thu, 08 May 2008 4:54:31 A group of neighbors recently visited Alpena Township Trustees with blight concerns. A while back, a blight issue on Long Rapids road was brought to the Township, after one neighbor was trying to sell his home. The Township visited the property, and the resident has since improved the situation. Neighbors were thankful for that, but were concerned of repeat blight issues on the property, and potential illegal burning that had been occurring on the property with paint cans nearby. One neighbor noting flames were so high, ashes landed on another neighbor's roof. The Township board referred neighbors to the Department of Natural Resources burn hotline and 9-1-1 if it happened again. As for blight, The Township Attorney indicated that in some instances, the resident could be cited if it's a repeat offense. Supervisor Marie Twite says, "We will be monitoring it." The Township has also sent a letter to the resident, suggesting they take remaining items to an upcoming county wide clean up. |
