Road Commission Decides Against 800 MHZ Radios Wed, 07 May 2008 15:10:54 The Alpena County Road Commission has decided not to pursue 800 mega hertz communication radios, opting instead to wait until better funding becomes available. According to Managing Director Larry Orcutt, the radios could be used to communicate with other entities in an emergency. But they could cost anywhere between 26 hundred and 8 thousand dollars each, he added. Plus, other road commissions have been able to get similar radios through grant money secured by their counties' emergency management offices. So the commissioners decided to wait, Orcutt said. He adds, "The board decided not to purchase them on their own and wait for some other entity to pick up the cost because it does sound like it could be very positive." He said the Michigan Department of Transportation has also discussed supplying a pair of 800 mega hertz radios to each county in Michigan. |
