Council Votes to Approve Sale of DPW Building Tue, 06 May 2008 15:18:43 The Alpena City Council voted Monday night to approve the sale of the old Department of Public Works building on Campbell Street in Alpena. City Manager Thad Taylor said local businessman Jon Benson has submitted a bid of $200,000 for the building, which has been vacant since 2005. The city has been trying to unload it since that time. The land-contract purchase agreement would require Benson to make monthly payments of just over 11 hundred dollars at zero percent interest. He will have the ability to convert to a mortgage agreement after five years if both parties agree. Benson plans to renovate the building and run some of the several businesses he owns at the site. As part of the deal, he must be operating at least two businesses in there within nine months of finalizing the deal. |
