Alpena Schoolboard Hears Of Future Needs And Department Wishes Tue, 06 May 2008 3:55:04 Alpena Schoolboard members last night heard from various department heads as they explained aspects of advance wish list planning and issues facing the district. Mark Samp, director of Information and technology reviewed next years plan to spend 4 hundred 50 thousand in computer technology upgrades and maintaniance. Food services director Jan Faulman detailed how over 1 hundred 50 thousand breakfasts and nearly 5 hundred thousand lunches are served yearly. Director Of Transportation Paul Wegmeyer detailed bus replacement schedules, how around 40 bus drivers drive the equivalent to Disneyworld and back on a daily basis amounting to nearly 6 hundred 55 thousand miles a year... and technology advancements of tracking busses and students. Director of building and grounds Mike Gagnon discussed solving roof issues at the Thunder Bay Junior High School, and the fact custodians clean and maintain over 7 hundred 55 thousand square feet of buildings. District Superintendent Brent Holcomb observed that part of advance planning is to identify where you wanna go... and identifying needs, of which he complemented department heads. "They began to lay out the vision about where we'd like to be. And you don't get there overnight, but you're not gonna get there if you don't dream and think about the possibilities." Holcomb adding "Sometimes, the part that needs to be distinguished is those needs verses maybe a want... " . He acknowledged there are a few wants on the list, but having the vision is an important part of the process. |
