DPW Building Construction Fund Developed By City Council Mon, 05 May 2008 15:34:58 The City of Alpena has developed a Department Of Public Works Construction Fund for future building maintenance needs. As construction of the new city facility was completed in the 2005 - 2006 fiscal year, with all expenses having been paid, there was some 2 hundred 8 thousand left over. That money has been pooled with other city funds and invested to generate interest income. As well, the city has been getting $675 a month for monthly rent on a cell phone tower the city allowed to be built on the site. That's earned over 16 thousand in investment income and tower rent in the city's last fiscal year. So in an effort to provide for potential future needs, money left from construction of and money coming in from the tower at the public works building will be earmarked in a special fund for building upkeep. A similar approach for the Public Safety Building has allowed a variety of improvements, such as a non skid floor, humidifier system, and energy efficient lights. Acquisition of and remodeling the former Print Plus building was also possible by tapping the fund. Council unanimously approved of the effort. |
