High Gas Prices Concern Local Government Board

Montmorency County Commissioners took a stand against increasing gasoline prices.

The Board of Commissioners recently passed a resolution that implores President Bush to release some of the Strategic Petroleum Reserves into the American marketplace nationwide equal to an amount that would offset present price increases at the pump. The Board also asks that United States Congress consider a nationwide temporary six month moratorium pertaining to federal sales tax on retail gas sales; and solicits bipartisan support from the Michigan legislature to search for ways to temporarily reduce gas prices for six months.

In the resolution the Board says,"There appears to be no end in sight in the way of relief for the U.S. consumer, and most large oil companies once again declared record profits on their 2007 year end statements, at the expense of the American consumer."
