Alpena County - "This Is Only A Test" Sat, 03 May 2008 5:12:28 If you hear sirens in the Alpena area on a Saturday afternoon about 1 pm, don't be alarmed. On the First Saturday of each month, Alpena County tests it's Outdoor warning system. The sirens are meant to alert residents if an immediate threat has entered the community. For example, the National Weather service issuing a tornado warning or if the community receives severe winds of 70-miles per hour or higher followed by a severe thunderstorm. If the warning system is activated for real, take cover immediately and turn on your battery powered radio to WATZ for further information as we release weather or official information from authorities as it becomes available. |
