Chisholm Street Project Ahead Of Schedule Fri, 02 May 2008 5:22:39 Alpena motorists peeking over barricades should notice some paving next week, as part of the ongoing Chisholm / US-23 reconstruction project. Alpena Transportation Service Center Director Scott Thayer says, "things are moving along very well," mentioning that curb and gutter, and sidewalk work has already been completed... the project a bit ahead of schedule. Thayer mentioned the biggest problems have been wrestling with old water mains. He said there have been a number of change orders to the project, as anticipated. Because of old mains, crews will be working through the weekend. This Saturday and Sunday, The intersection of Chisholm, Long Rapids, US-23 near the Civic Center be tore up to replace water mains. Traffic will be maintained by flags, and when workers aren't working, there will be a flashing signal. All work is part of Phase one of the project, which began April 14th.... Cordes Excavating doing the work for 4.2-million dollars. That part of Chisholm street work is expected to finish by May 23rd... then work would immediately shift to the north of Johnson Street up to the Industrial Park on the City's northernmost edge. |
